It didn't take long for the rest of the clan to find their voices. Complaint rose swiftly, Brindleflower's voice leading the dissenting charge. The furious nature of her sister's voice made Paleblossom's ears fall back against her head, worried stare flicking between the young deputy and their leader.
Paleblossom hadn't meant to rouse so many against Ivystar. Her only concerns had been for the safety of her clanmates - if any injuries were to take place, it was her job to tend to them and make sure they did not fall into the strong jaws of death.
She was glad when Ivystar finally spoke, silencing the swell of angry tones blending into one. Paleblossom felt the tension bleed from her when the stern she-cat turned toward her, acknowledging her concerns. Paleblossom, quiet now, nodded once to Ivystar in acceptance.
Dawnpaw pressed close, drawing Paleblossom's attention from the meeting. She glanced sideways at the smaller she-cat and, remembering the giant cats that had stalked into the gathering, didn't bother trying to hide the shiver that coursed through her. "Giant cats," Paleblossom whispered back. "like, bigger than any cat you could ever imagine. They showed up at the gathering with Snailsprig... she used to be our leader, a long time ago. They were huge, bigger than any dog I've ever seen. Winterlights - he used to be ShadowClan's leader - warned us about them, told all the clans about how dangerous they were, right before Snailsprig brought them right into the gathering!" She shuddered again at the horrifying memory of those giant, powerful cats prowling into Fivetrees.

Swiftshadow flinched among the raised voices around her. There were understandable worries for the return of tunnelling, but Swiftshadow didn't like the way their concerns seemed to have sharpened into frustration and anger around her. Her golden eyes snapped most warily to Kinkwhisker as the tom snarled at his Clanmates. He looked much the way Cranepaw often did when the apprentice lost his temper; aggressive. It unsettled her a little bit, but her mate wasn't here to shelter her now. She simply held still, deathly quiet as she waited for the frustrations to blow over.
Ivystar spoke again, her voice stern as she tried to persuade her Clan to reason. Swiftshadow's ears pricked forward as she listened, attentive to her leader's words and understanding of the intentions. It made her feel a little more reassured, at least. She curled her tail tight around her paws and dipped her head to Ivystar.
She'd volunteered to keep herself busy and to be useful to the Clan. Her grief might have drained the little tortoiseshell of considerable joy and energy, but learning new skills would demand more of it than before. She'd be tired. Tired enough, hopefully, that she would be able to sleep in her too-empty nest.
