Creampaw slid into the ThunderClan camp. It was nighttime again, the sky as starry and black as the day he had ventured out. It had been at least a week since that night when he left seeking the truth, and now he came back with that knowledge set in his mind. The scent that filled the air was different from the city and the unclaimed forest, reminding him both of home and of his anger. He felt disgusted that he had called the bloodthirsty conqueror Deadeye his father. He hated the tom so strongly, and hated himself for trusting him with a stronger passion.

Turning sharply towards the medicine den, he stalked his way inside. He had no need to be quiet now. Deadeye needed to be confronted. He needed to be stopped. Creampaw knew that the brown tabby tom was lurking in this Clan, pretending to be a soft father and a supporting mentor when in reality he was a murderer waiting for the right time to pounce.

"Deadeye," he mumbled, standing inside the medicine den and peering over his nest. "We need to talk."

Like hell we do.

Creampaw had been walking on his journey for a few days now. He didn't know where he was going, where the bad cats came from, what he would even ask them- but he wouldn't stop until he knew. He felt bad abandoning his family, his home like this, but the not-so-little kitten was curious and determined.

He was far away from his forest home now, and he had crossed over into an entirely new world. A bustling Twolegplace, filled with the acrid scent of monsters and hints of cat scent. The red tabby tom had come across a strange yet wide enclosure. Padding in, unfamiliar cat scent washed over him- but he remembered it vaguely. Thinking back, he realized that it was the scent of the bad cats, the cats that had attacked his father, the cats his father was a part of. His legs began to shake, and his breath began to quicken as his mind turned back to that warped image of his father, teeth bared and paws bloody.

Moving forward cautiously, still panicking, he began to explore the different parts of the space, not knowing that this was indeed the camp of the very cats he was looking for. He wasn't so sure he was prepared to learn the truth, especially not if the picture his mind had conjured up was even close to the true story. Did he want to know the origins of his father? No, but still a nagging curiosity tugged at him, causing him to keep moving forward, deeper into the camp.

It was the dead of night in ThunderClan. A hush had fallen over the camp, and soft breathing filled the apprentice den. Everyone was deep in comfortable slumber, worn out from another day of patrolling, training, and hunting. Creampaw, however, was struggling to sleep. While every other cat was comfortably chasing mice in soft dreams, the red tom was grappling with issues of his own.

He had been an apprentice for around a moon now, and he had been thinking about his mentor- his father - Deadeye. Deadeye was a powerful fighter, gentle with his son but full of useful knowledge. He loved the brown tabby with all of his heart and soul. He was his father, adopted though he may be, and that made all the difference. He had been told when he was young of Deadeye's origins- indeed, he remembered that night after the battle as if it happened yesterday. Malicious cats had come to the camp looking to take Deadeye away from the clan, away from him. He had tried to protect Deadeye, but in the end it had been the rest of the Clan that had come to his father's aid. His father, his loving, soft daddy, had unbelievably been one of those bad cats. He had met the kind Telegraphavenue, and he had fled to ThunderClan.

It still frightened him sometimes, as it did now, that his father was one of the bad cats. What if he was masquerading as a affectionate lover, and he was waiting for the right moment to strike? The looks his parents had exchanged when he had asked that evening told him that there was something they had been hiding. He was too naive to know or care then, but now as an apprentice he felt he deserved to find out. He still loved his father dearly, but he knew that underneath that lovable exterior lied something far more sinister. He imagined a distorted version of his father, teeth gleaming and paws covered in blood.

As he began to cry softly, he made up his mind. He had to know. Raising himself shakily from his mossy nest and padding outside, he thought about how he would learn the truth. He didn't know where the bad cats came from, much less where they were now. But he was a curious and clever kit- he would find his way eventually. Gazing from faraway into the medicine den one last time, he blinked slowly at the sleeping form of Telegraphavenue. "I love you," he whispered too quiet for anybody but him to hear. "I'll be back." With that, he wedged himself inside a grove of trees near the cleared entrance to camp and made his way into the forest, beginning his journey to discover the truth.

Creampaw awoke from a fitful sleep. But he was an apprentice now- soon he would train, soon he would learn how to protect his clan and himself. And most of all, his family. He slept in segments for a different reason now. This new den was different from the medicine den- it smelled like other cats and not like the bitter herbs that he had come to love. Telly was not there to burrow into when the nights got cold and frightening. He was alone now during the night and into the early morning, and it scared him.

It still dazzled him that his father was also his mentor. His wonderful, gentle father would be the one training him to be a warrior? It seemed almost impossible, until he remembered his father's heritage. It unsettled him to know that Deadeye was a city cat- an evil one, no less-but he knew in the back of his mind that he was reformed, he was sweet and loving now. The brown tabby would was a good mentor and a good father, no matter the case.

Sneaking out of the apprentice den, he saw the expansive sky striated with vibrant colors, lighting up pink and orange and yellow over the camp. The red tabby tom knew that soon a new day would start- a new day of training and apprenticeship. He was eager to how to sneak up on prey, how to knock out an opponent, how to do everything that warriors did. He pranced over to the medicine den where he used to sleep and aimed to jump lightly on top of Deadeye. "Daddy! It's time to train!" he whispered.

Creamkit rolled around playfully in the center of camp, tussling with a stick and scratching shallowly into the bark with his tiny claws. Tiny pieces of grass clung to his pale orange tabby fur as he flipped around, play-fighting with the tough tree limb. He didn't know other kits very well, and stammered whenever he had tried to introduce himself. He had no playmates, and certainly wasn't making any, so here he lay, alone with nothing but the rough timber. He pushed away the stick and gazed into the sky, panting from the strenuous exercise. Would he ever gain enough pride in himself to obtain a friend or two?
