<div class="mikkipost">There was no time for formalities. To wait on the border for precious minutes that wasted away while a murderer stalked the clans. Hollowstar whisked his tail to signal Cygnetstep and Claymore to keep following as he padded across the scent-markers dividing WindClan territory from ThunderClan's. Once across, the long-legged tom broke into a run.
<p>
He couldn't help but feel like he was being chased; like the cats on his heels weren't his own clanmates, but the tom-cat responsible for a death of yet another one of their own. Hollowstar's thoughts, scattered to the wind as he ran, seemed to blow backwards in the wind - to Fivetrees, to the night of last moon's gathering, and Six. Remembering the powerful tom, the arrogance he'd displayed sitting there so casually, as if it was his right to be there, made Hollowstar's lips curl back over his teeth in an empty snarl.

<div class="mikkipost">Being back on ThunderClan land was strange. Not only because of his history there, fading into the distance as time wore on, but because of what had happened in moons past. Although it felt like no time had passed at all, it had been nearly two moons since RiverClan had sought refuge in ThunderClan from the flood - and since Foxscar had showed up there, and killed Coalstep before dying himself at Nobleground's paws.
<p>
It was for that reason that he was there, waiting on ThunderClan's border just north of the twoleg bridge. He only wished he could be there under better circumstances. The news he had to deliver benefited no one.

<div class="mikkipost">Hollowstar took the stones two at a time, using the length of his long legs to his advantage as he bounded up the tumble of rocks that led up to the High Ledge. He didn't pause at the top, immediately pacing to the edge to look out over RiverClan's camp. Down to the ground, where Whisperingwind's body lay folded neatly in front of Supernatural's den.
<p>
He inhaled deeply, sucking in a lungful of air before bellowing as loudly as he could, "All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the High Ledge for a clan meeting!" His words echoed off the stone, and as the last of them died into silence the curious voices of his clanmates stepped neatly in to fill the void. Hollowstar waited, giving them enough time to at least peer out from their dens or pad forward, before he began to pace.
<p>
"Whisperingwind is dead, and we have good reason to believe the one responsible is Six - some of you might remember him from the gathering. The rogue that was there when we first arrived." Hollowstar's lips curled back in a silent snarl as he remembered: the haughtiness, as though he had somehow had every right to be there, the casual way he uttered threats even when outnumbered a dozen to one. "From now on, until we're certain this threat is resolved, no cat is to go out alone -nobody, regardless of rank."
<p>
He paused to let this sink in before he continued. "I need volunteers for four patrols. I'll lead one to ThunderClan, the other two will go to WindClan, ShadowClan and SkyClan." SkyClan might have been safe from the threat, given their position in the mountains. The terrain there would make it harder to navigate for someone who'd never been there before. But SkyClan and RiverClan relations were good, perhaps the best they'd been since Equinoxstar's death - he wouldn't risk that by not sending a patrol when he was sending one to the other clans. "If it was Six, the other clans need to know that he hasn't gone and the threats he made the night of the gathering were very real."<p>

<div class="mikkipost">Hollowstar crept to nursery entrance with obvious reluctance to his step. At its mouth he paused to throw a backwards glance at the cat tailing him, swallowing against the twining guilt and fear that rose in his throat like bile. He hadn't done anything wrong, and yet he felt like an apprentice who'd gotten caught scarfing down freshkill before the rest of the clan had been fed.
<p>
It didn't help that he couldn't get a read on Cygnetstep. Her face was a blank canvas to him, wiped clean of whatever emotions some part of him hoped to see. He hadn't thought to stop, to ask what she thought before he dragged her to the nursery to see his mate, to be witness to the young kittens nursing healthily at her belly. Hollowstar had only thought that he had to, that he owed it to both of them to get introductions out of the way. It had already been several days since Cygnetstep's return to the clan, barely a full cycle of the sun since RiverClan had moved into it's new home.
<p>
Even though the hollow was strange in its newness, Hollowstar couldn't help but feel like he was home. For once, for the first time in moons, it felt like he could finally stop looking over his shoulder.
<p>
"Brightcloud?" Hollowstar turned away from Cygnetstep to call out into the shadows, and without preamble ventured deeper into the crevice. He signaled briefly for Cygnetstep to wait at the entrance, considering for half a heartbeat laying his tail against her shoulder in an attempt to comfort before he squashed the idea, cast it aside, and tried not to wince at his own bald feelings. "There's somewhere here I'd like you to, uh, meet."

<div class="mikkipost">He waited until news of the new arrival quieted down, until the sun was fixed at a low point just above the distant horizon, before he made his descent. The climb from his den down to the main level of camp was getting easier with every trip, especially with his long-legged gait.
<p>
Hollowstar paused outside the mouth of Supernatural's den, peering into the gloomy darkness within with narrowed eyes. "Super?" he called softly, not wanting to disturb the sleeping patients inside. "I'd like that talk now."</div>[/dohtml]
